The Other and a Garden at Night – Micro-Residency Program

Chicoutimi Arts and Culture Center, Saguenay, January 25–March 16, 2025

In the gallery, during the ten days leading up to the exhibition, I explore the concept of origin through objects and works that I have kept in my home-studio for several years. I bring them in with the aim of re-engaging with them and retaining only the most significant ones: two woolen blankets made by my maternal grandmother around 1945, an aerial photograph of unknown date (1960–1970) of her house and small farm, a light-up globe from the 1970s, as well as loose pages from a personal sketchbook painted in 2000 (Amoureuse, Le rêve de l’ours, Roses, and Paysage intérieur). A triptych is formed with a drawing of a golden hand holding a rose (2000) and two floral ink drawings depicting butterflies (2021). In addition, I have brought together an antique frame, black earth, a mirror, and my clay sculpture of a pelvis covered in gold-leaf imitation. Finally, twelve balls made from clay taken from the stream bordering the property where I live, and containing remnants of garlic from the garden, are lined up at the base of a picture rail.
