The Other and a Garden at Night

Chicoutimi Arts and Culture Center, Saguenay, January 25–March 16, 2025

This exhibition follows a twelve-week residency at the Centre de formation générale des adultes des Rives-du-Saguenay. In the spring of 2024, I worked with students from Center 216 on their horticultural projects in the classroom and at Fermes Solidar to create a series of digital prints. Nine display cases arranged on the floor showcase the students’ creations, which draw inspiration from my approach and, in turn, stimulate my interventions to design artistic fusions. They are thus the result of mutual influences centered on art and nature. Not far from there, a celestial map drawn by the students invites us into a cosmic imagination. A micro-publishing residency, carried out at the SAGAMIE center during the same period, resulted in a book that unfolds here to reveal a series of photographs, drawings, and haikus about my garden at night. Finally, a gallery-based micro-residency (next page) focused on the concept of origin, using objects and works preserved for several years in my home-studio, preceded the exhibition.

This project is part of the “A School Hosts an Artist or Writer” component of the Quebec Ministry of Education’s “Culture in Schools” program, at the invitation of teacher Éléonore Vidal. The artist would like to thank the SAGAMIE center for its support in producing this project.
